The GI-16 has the greater strength mil-spec quality forged upper and lower receivers with A-1 sights.  An excellent carbine with a 16" button rifled barrel, forged receivers and A-1 sights.

This receiver body close-up clearly shows the forged receivers with all of the A-2 upgrades. The only exception is the A-1 rear sight system.

With the A-1 sight system, your sights are still fully adjustable. You just have to adjust the elevation at the front sight post, as opposed to making incremental adjustments using the rear sight base like you would on a A-2 rifle.
