HOW TO INSTALL
Olympic Arms Free Floating
Integral Rail System Handguard (FIRSH)
Tools
- Olympic H28B BOSSE Armorers wrench
- 2 - Olympic AR59 front site taper pins
- Concave punch set - for removing taper pins. Regular
punches will work, but will likely bounce off taper pins and harm finish of
front site/barrel.
- 8-16 ounce hammer
- Molybdenum Disulfide grease for barrel nut threads.
TIP: Check auto parts store. They
call it "anti-seize compound." You can get a small tub for
$5-$10! It should be slightly gritty paste.
Technique
- Unload and make your firearm safe to handle.
-
Remove muzzle brake / flash suppressor with appropriate
tool.
NOTE: If you have a POSTBAN
brake/suppressor, it might be welded, silver soldered, blind pinned
or a combination of these, You might be better off buying a new upper
or having a qualified gunsmith install FIRSH.
- With a fine marker on the bottom
side of the barrel in between the sites mark the intersection of the front
site base and the barrel for depth and side to side location. A small
fine marking is all that is needed.
- Knock out front site taper pins from left to right (when
holding firearm like you would shoot it).
TIP: If you do not have a concave punch,
you can put a couple layers of masking or electrical tape over the taper
pins to protect the front site. Place your punch over tape where head
of taper pin is and knock out being careful not punch outside of taper pin
head.
- Remove front site by lightly tapping it until it loosen
enough to hand remove. You can leave gas tube hooked to front site.
- Remove original barrel nut and associated parts so only
barrel and upper receiver are in contact with each other.
- Take FIRSH inner barrel nut and put Moly onto the inside
FIRST barrel nut threads. Screw onto upper receiver with barrel in place.
- Tighten the barrel nut to 31-80 foot/lbs. using a torque
wrench and back off 3 times. This helps improve the mating of the
FIRSH barrel nut and the aluminum upper receiver. On the third time align
the gas tube holes in the FIRSH barrel nut with upper receiver gas tube
passageway.
- Take Moly and put on threads on outside of FIRSH barrel
nut.
- Screw on FIRSH outside tube body until it is even with the
FIRSH barrel nut closest to the upper receiver.
- Align the FIRSH tube rails so the maintaining nut is on the
bottom and the upper rail is aligned with the upper receiver site path.

- To eliminate the chance of the FIRSH retaining screw from loosening
during usage, use some blue Loctite on the small screw threads, to hold in
place.
- Hand tighten the FIRSH screw by hand until it will not
tighten without excessive force. You might notice a small amount of
Moly has been squeezed out. This is fine and can be cleaned up with a
rag.

- You might have noticed a little tarnish/rust occurring
under the front site. Polish the rust off carefully and put a small
amount of grease where the metal of the front site and barrel meet.
Make sure you keep the gas ports clean of all debris and grease.
- Take your front site with gas tube and push onto barrel
until it is in place with milled out taper pins.
- Verify the location of the front site as marked in the
previous marking section. As you progress with
placement of taper pins check that your markings line up, so you front site
does not become cantered.
- Take taper pins, preferably new, and tap them into place
from right to left. The taper pins should come close to poking out the
left side or in some cases come out a little ways. Your goal is to
have them tightly in place.

time.
- Put panels onto FIRSH
