Question: Which is better? Cast or forged receiver Answer: There are a lot of rumors about cast and/or forged receivers and which one are better. As anything in life there are many variables that can make one better or worse than the other. Cast technology has been increasing by leaps in bounds in the quality product that can be created. Yes, many of us still think of casting to be like what we did when in shop class. Find a bunch of scrap aluminum, created a mold from some master, melt down the aluminum down in a furnace, pour it and find that we did not have a good pour and have to do it again. The finished product was just OK, but for someone learning it worked well. A forged lower is harder than a cast receiver. Will that make a difference for us? It depends on how you treat your firearm. If you baby it, like 95+% of us do, either will be fine. If you use your firearm as a shovel, oar, throw it around like a hammer - get a forged receiver. If you are in a price sensitive area and will treat your firearm with tender loving care, a cast lower will likely do you well. Example: Cast lowers have been converted to machine guns and have shot tens of thousands of rounds without failure. For more information, see Olympic Arms page on telling the difference.
